Come Sit Awhile (In honor of Father's Day)

Terri Chaney

On this Father's day I am reminded of something my dad used to say.  Years ago when my oldest was young, my parents who lived in the same town used to love for me to drop my son off at their house so they could babysit.  I would take him several times a week when I had lunch plans, went grocery shopping etc.. When I would come to pick him up my dad many times would say, "sit down a minute, you don't have to be anywhere."  Many times I would sit and other times I would tell him I needed to get home or had groceries in the car.  Looking back I treasure those "chats" with my dad even though most times were just about trivial things like how much rain I had at my house opposed to theirs.  How I would love to sit and visit with him now.  Although my dad is not around anymore, I still have those fond memories.  My heavenly Father asks the same question of me "sit down for a while you don't need to be anywhere," which is another way of saying "everything can wait I want to spend time with you."  He really wants us to take that time to just sit and "chat" with Him.  Just like Mary who Jesus said chose the better thing when Jesus had come to visit. Instead of being busy and hurried about she wanted to sit at his feet.  We have the same choice daily.   If given the chance to sit and visit with your dad this Father's day, I hope you'll do it.  I also hope you'll give our heavenly Father your time to just "sit down a minute or more." Those are precious moments spent.

Happy Father's Day!!
