Getting Ready for the Christmas Season

Terri Chaney

It's that time of year and I've been making a lot of ornaments I thought I'd share a couple of them with you today.   I will be teaching at an ornament party next month at the Heritage Museum, Big Spring, TX.   I'm so looking forward to it.  Each person will get to make their own unique ornament with some basic instruction and lots of fun materials to choose from.

New mini artwork collection

Terri ChaneyComment

I recently was asked to show my art at a local artwalk.  I decided to make a collection of small 6 x 6 paintings to sell.  I have always worked on larger pieces, so it was fun to do these that don't take as long, therefore you get to see the result quicker.  Here's a few that will be for sale in my Etsy shop soon.

Come Sit Awhile (In honor of Father's Day)

Terri Chaney

On this Father's day I am reminded of something my dad used to say.  Years ago when my oldest was young, my parents who lived in the same town used to love for me to drop my son off at their house so they could babysit.  I would take him several times a week when I had lunch plans, went grocery shopping etc.. When I would come to pick him up my dad many times would say, "sit down a minute, you don't have to be anywhere."  Many times I would sit and other times I would tell him I needed to get home or had groceries in the car.  Looking back I treasure those "chats" with my dad even though most times were just about trivial things like how much rain I had at my house opposed to theirs.  How I would love to sit and visit with him now.  Although my dad is not around anymore, I still have those fond memories.  My heavenly Father asks the same question of me "sit down for a while you don't need to be anywhere," which is another way of saying "everything can wait I want to spend time with you."  He really wants us to take that time to just sit and "chat" with Him.  Just like Mary who Jesus said chose the better thing when Jesus had come to visit. Instead of being busy and hurried about she wanted to sit at his feet.  We have the same choice daily.   If given the chance to sit and visit with your dad this Father's day, I hope you'll do it.  I also hope you'll give our heavenly Father your time to just "sit down a minute or more." Those are precious moments spent.

Happy Father's Day!!

Well, we're well into Spring now!  Don't you love Spring?  Isn't it awesome that we don't have to stay in one season all the time?  Spring is my favorite because everything is coming to life and blooming, giving the landscape (especially in West Texas) some much needed color.  This is such a picture of what God does when we've been in that "winter season" in our lives and it's bleak, gray, harsh and then SUDDENLY.......It's Spring.  "See the Winter is past the rains are over and gone, flowers appear on the earth and a season of singing has come." (Song of Sol. 2) These paintings are both about that very thing, although I think I have several more.  I think it's a popular theme in my artwork.   God turning our mourning to dancing, new life, new hope, new joy.  It's why I paint really.  To spread that hope to others.   People often tell me my paintings make them smile and have lots of "JOY" in them.  I sincerely hope so!!

Abundance

Terri Chaney

This painting is one I finished recently called "Abundance".   Lots of fun making this piece.  It's no secret I like flowers, so I paint flowers a majority of the time.   I love that God gives us abundance; abundant life, fullness of joy, and He is lavish in His love for us.  He did not spare his only son.....that's how freely He gives.  He provides every need we have, every provision, He's not a god of crumbs and lack but gives us exceedingly above all the we could ask or think.   He is the Lord our Shepherd we shall not want!  No good think will He withhold to them that walk uprightly!

May you be abundantly blessed today!

Restoration

City of Hope 24 x 30 on Canvas

So this is a painting I did last year called "City of Hope"  which is all about Restoration.  It's from a song titled "City of Hope" by Amanda Cook from the album: Brave New World.   The lyrics are:

Once we were a barren land
Dry from disappointment
But Heaven, like a heavy rain
Revealed Your heart for us

Now we're dusting off our instruments
In You we've found our will to live
What was once a wilderness
Is teeming with new life

You are mending the broken-hearted
You are making all things new
You're rebuilding out of the ruins
A city of hope with the ones You love

Adoption is our heritage
Chosen from the orphanage
The Father's great inheritance
Bestowed upon us all

You are mending the broken-hearted
You are making all things new
You're rebuilding out of the ruins
A city of hope with the ones You love

We're the ones You love
We're the ones You love
We're the ones You love
We're the ones You love

You're rebuilding out of the ruins
A city of hope with the ones You love

You are mending the broken-hearted
You are making all things new
You're rebuilding out of the ruins
A city of hope with the ones You love

I love that God is a god of restoration and healing.  He takes the broken pieces of our lives and makes something beautiful from those broken pieces.   He wants to restore relationships, dreams, our joy, memories, failures, etc..  He's so good!

Be blessed this week!

Winds of change

Celebrating the launching of my new website, new blog, and new business name.  It's been a process to get to the point of turning an interest.. to a hobby... to a business.  Although I started my business a couple of years ago, I am now at the point of getting serious about it.  So, to move in that direction, I am starting with this new facelift....Windblown Art!

As I was thinking about wind I began to journal some of my thoughts.  Wind (many times) brings change....change of temperature, topography or landscape, ushers in a change of seasons.  Wind can be calm as a gentle refreshing breeze, or violent forceful storm.  Wind has movement.  It can help propel us forward, or if we go against it, it brings resistance.  Seeds are scattered by wind.  Trees and plants need strong root systems to handle strong wind currents.

I like this video that talks about letting "the WIND" blow in our life that the Lord might have His way in our life.

The scripture for my website is from Song of Solomon that says ""Awake, O north wind, And come, wind of the south; Make my garden breathe out fragrance, Let its spices be wafted abroad." Song of Solomon 4:16  My desire is that the Holy Spirit blow in my life and through my artwork, that others may experience the fragrance of Him in my life.

Maybe you have some thoughts on wind.  I'd love to hear them.

Blessings,

Terri
